The SEO Content Brief Template That Actually Works

Use this content brief template to align keywords, intent, and structure so writers ship pages that rank.

Most content fails because the brief is vague. This template gives writers exactly what they need to create pages that rank.

1. Search Intent Summary

  • Primary keyword and top 3 variations
  • The question the searcher is trying to answer
  • Content type that ranks (guide, list, comparison)

2. SERP Snapshot

List the top 5 ranking pages and note what they do well. This is your baseline.

3. Recommended Outline

  • H1 title and meta description
  • H2s for main sections
  • H3s for supporting points
  • FAQs you will answer

4. Internal Links

  • 3-5 internal pages to link out to
  • 1-2 pages that should link back
  • Anchor text suggestions
💡

If you cannot explain the search intent in one sentence, the brief is not ready.

5. On-Page Checklist

  • Keyword in H1 and first 100 words
  • Descriptive subheadings
  • Short paragraphs and scannable lists
  • Relevant images with alt text

Audit your pages to see what is missing.
