While everyone chases Ahrefs and Semrush data, GSC gives you something those tools can't: direct data from Google itself, about exactly how your site is performing in search. - Date comparison: Compare this 28 days vs previous 28 days to identify trends — which pages are gaining, which are declining?
- Filter by 'Devices': If mobile CTR is dramatically lower than desktop, your mobile snippet may be truncated or your structured data only showing on desktop
- Filter by 'Country': If you're getting significant impressions from countries you don't serve, consider international SEO or hreflang tags
The Coverage Report: Understanding What Google Has Indexed
The Coverage report shows which pages Google has crawled and indexed, and which have issues. It categorises pages into: Valid (indexed), Valid with warnings (indexed but with minor issues), Error (not indexed due to a problem), and Excluded (not indexed, but intentionally so).
- Error — Server error (5xx): Your server returned an error when Googlebot visited — hosting or code issue
- Error — Redirect error: A redirect chain is broken or looping
- Error — Not found (404): The page doesn't exist — check for broken internal links or missing pages
- Excluded — Crawled, currently not indexed: Google crawled the page but chose not to index it — usually indicates thin or low-quality content
- Excluded — Discovered, currently not indexed: Googlebot knows about the page but hasn't crawled it yet — may indicate crawl budget issues on large sites
- Excluded — Duplicate without canonical tag: Multiple URLs serving the same content with no canonical specified
The URL Inspection Tool
Enter any URL from your site to see exactly how Google has indexed it. You can see the last crawl date, whether it's indexed, what canonicalised URL Google selected, and whether there are any mobile usability or structured data issues. After making changes to a page, use Request Indexing to ask Google to re-crawl it faster — usually picks up changes within 24-48 hours.

The Links report shows your top linked pages (which pages receive the most internal and external links), top linking sites, and top anchor texts. While less detailed than Ahrefs or Majestic, this is Google's own view of your link profile — the most authoritative source available. Use it to identify your most link-worthy content and your strongest pages for internal linking concentration.
Manual Actions: The Penalty Report
If Google has issued a manual penalty against your site, it appears here. Manual actions are applied by Google employees when a site violates their webmaster guidelines — typically for spammy links, hidden text, or structured data manipulation. If you receive a manual action, fix the underlying issue, then submit a reconsideration request through GSC. Most manual actions are resolved within 2-4 weeks of a successful reconsideration.
